Robert W. Miller has been a prolific composer in film, television, and the concert hall for over 33 years. A graduate of the Mannes College of Music in New York City, Robert was encouraged to enter the world of film scoring by his mentors Aaron Copland, William Schuman, and Edgar David Grana. Robert has provided scores for nearly 3,000 commercials with notable directors including Lance Acord, Noam Murro, Rupert Sanders, Dante Ariola, John Hillcoat, and Nicolai Fuglsig. His work is featured in over 80 film scores, two television series, and numerous works for the concert hall and stage. Among Robert’s work in film are several collaborations with pioneering editor and sound designer Walter Murch, renowned documentarian Eugene Jarecki, ten-time Emmy award-winning director Jon Hock, director Steven Spielberg (as executive producer), and Oscar-winning director Thomas Lennon. In 2017, Robert collaborated with choreographer Troy Schumacher on a new ballet entitled “The Wind Still Brings” for the New York City Ballet. Robert also has a long-standing creative relationship with Neil deGrasse Tyson and The American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium, having scored seven Space Shows since 2008, including the planetarium’s current show, “Encounters in the Milky Way,” which premiered this summer. Among other new film projects, Robert just completed scoring ESPN’s biggest series to date, entitled “The Yankees Win,” directed by John Hock and produced by JJ Abrams. Robert’s work has garnered the industry’s highest honors: British Academy Television Awards, ADDY’s, AICPs, seven CLIOs, and five Emmy Awards. The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency in Los Angeles represents Miller in film and television.
